Raise the Bar

Gadget Mockup Frames Laptop

An impulsive up and coming rapper who is forced to face his demons in order to take care of his mother who recently went blind from diabetes. It sheds light on what it is like growing up black in the suburbs and dealing with things such as; racism, mental health and caring for an aging parent with medical issues. I think wrote “Raise the Bar”, as a call to action to represent people with similar backgrounds as mine. This project pushes back against boundaries of one-dimensional inclusivity and allows for the full depth of the human experience through a non- stereotyped black family’s lens. Sure, representation is all the rave, but progress is ever so slow. There are still millions more stories to be told, ones that do not put an entire group of people into one cultural box.
